Guided by Intention

Our Philosophy

Every choice we make - from ingredients to intention - is guided by a deep respect for nature, nourishment, and the unseen energy that connects us all.

Why Plant-Based

At Prana & Bean, every dish is intentionally prepared - free from meat (however, we do have an honorable add on option for game for our guests still transitioning towards a plant based path), we have plant based milk options, and do not serve alcohol. This isn't a trend for us; it's a deeply held value rooted in compassion, sustainability, and the understanding that what we consume directly shapes our energy, clarity, and wellbeing.

A whole-food, plant-based diet is rich in antioxidants, fibre, and essential nutrients while being naturally anti-inflammatory. Research consistently shows that plant-forward eating supports heart health, gut diversity, and long-term vitality - benefits our guests experience with every visit.

By choosing plants, we also choose the planet. Every meal at Prana & Bean is a quiet act of care for both body and earth.

The Sourdough Difference

Our sourdough is crafted through slow, natural fermentation - a process that takes 24 to 48 hours and uses only flour, water, and a living wild-yeast culture. There are no commercial yeasts, preservatives, or shortcuts.

This ancient method pre-digests gluten and phytic acid, making the bread far easier on the gut than conventional loaves. The long fermentation produces beneficial lactic acid bacteria - the same probiotics found in yoghurt and kimchi - which actively support a healthy microbiome.

Sourdough also has a lower glycaemic index than standard bread, meaning it releases energy steadily rather than spiking blood sugar. For our guests, this translates to sustained energy, better digestion, and a deeper sense of nourishment with every slice.

Frequency-Infused Food

Every dish and beverage at Prana & Bean is prepared with conscious intention and what we call frequency infusion. Drawing from the understanding that all matter vibrates at a measurable frequency, we use specific sound frequencies, intention-setting, and mindful preparation techniques to elevate the energetic quality of our offerings.

This practice is inspired by the pioneering water-crystal research of Dr Masaru Emoto and the growing field of vibrational nutrition. Studies in cymatics and bio-photon research suggest that the energetic environment in which food is prepared can influence its molecular structure and, by extension, how our bodies receive it.

Whether it's a cup of cacao prepared with 528 Hz (the "Love Frequency") or a meal crafted in meditative silence, every offering is designed to nourish not just the body, but the spirit.

Alcohol-Free by Design

Prana & Bean is proudly alcohol-free. This is a conscious choice that reflects our commitment to creating a space of clarity, presence, and genuine connection - values that align with the growing global movement toward mindful, sober-curious living.

In place of alcohol, we offer an inspired selection of frequency-infused elixirs, adaptogenic tonics, ceremonial cacao, artisan coffees, and fresh-pressed juices. These beverages are designed to uplift, restore, and energise without the downsides of alcohol.

The alcohol-free lifestyle is one of the fastest-growing wellness trends worldwide. More people are discovering that social connection, creativity, and celebration don't require alcohol - and our café is a living example of that truth.

Conscious Sourcing

We believe transparency is a form of respect. Every ingredient at Prana & Bean is chosen with intention - prioritising supporting local growers. We work closely with small-scale farmers and ethical suppliers on the KZN South Coast.

Our kitchen avoids refined sugars, artificial additives, and ultra-processed ingredients. Instead, we use whole foods, cold-pressed oils, raw sweeteners like dates and coconut nectar, and herbs from our own garden where available.

This approach isn't just about health - it's about honouring the full journey of food, from soil to plate. When you eat at Prana & Bean, you know exactly what you're nourishing yourself with.

Rooted in intention

These are the beliefs that shaped every slow cup we served.
